I have posted before about high-fructose corn syrup, but I feel I need to follow up with the following information.
There is even more evidence now that sugars, and especially fructose, are the major cause of fat deposition and weight-gain, not fats. As least with glucose, the liver can process it and store it as glycogen. The liver can not process fructose as it does glucose. It is processed in the liver much like alcohol is, leading to insulin insensitivity and fat deposition. All the long-term health effects of fructose are the same as the long-term health effects of alcohol consumption. The only difference is fructose doesn't get into the brain, so there are no mental effects. "Fructose is ethanol without the buzz" is a quote from the video below, and is very fitting.
The following video does an excellent job at explaining what happens with fructose, so I will let it do most of the talking.
This is part one of nine parts. It is very worth seeing all nine parts (approx 70mins total time). Just click on the video when it is running and it will bring you to the rest of the videos.
